A Letter From the Owner
People always ask me how I got into
beekeeping, how long I’ve been a beekeeper or how many hives I have.
So here is a little background on me and how I got into beekeeping.
I have always been fascinated with bees and other nice bugs since I
was a little girl. Even my name, Deborah, means “bee” in Hebrew.
In 1995, when our children were very young, we got
involved in the local 4-H program. They had a beekeeping program and
since we used a lot of honey in our home, I figured it would be a
good home school project for us to do. We started out with two hives
that eventually died due to Varroa mites.
Then I found out that my great uncle, Hardy Johnson,
was a beekeeper in Fargo Georgia. I would often drive up there to
help him sling honey or ride out to his bee farms to check the bees.
He was a great influence and the best mentor anyone could ever ask
for. I miss him terribly and will never forget the impact he had on
my life and my beekeeping.
So that’s a little about me. I’m just a backyard
beekeeper like you! Come by my shop, I look forward to meeting you.
